North Shore Table Matters Annual Forum: A Community Discussion about Food Security and Urban Agriculture

We organize a community discussion about food security and urban agriculture on the North Shore. This gathering, held each fall, draws together over 100 participants and many facilitators/speakers from government, community agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, and interested individuals to initiate movement towards more sustainable agriculture and food security on the North Shore.

Participants meet with local and regional experts to recommend strategic priorities specifically for the North Shore. Some of the discussion topics have included: food hubs and precincts, residential food production, municipal agricultural strategies, the MetroVancouver Food Strategy, social enterprise opportunities and food recovery. We have heard from all 5 North Shore Mayors about their interest in local food systems.

North Shore Table Matters Monthly Network Meetings

VCH North Shore is organizing monthly meetings of the Table Matters Network. This diverse group of people, including community food project leaders, residents interested in local action and/ or municipal policy development has engaged in advocacy with both the District and City of North Vancouver. Several new community food project groups and action groups have formed as a result of the monthly meetings.
