Table Matters and Vancouver Coastal Health, with input from local partners, have developed an online food asset map that lists North Shore organizations that offer services and goods such as low-cost meals, subsidized groceries, community gardens, food assistance programs, school breakfast programs, grocery retail stores, and more.     Students at Sherwood Park Elementary School are getting a nutritional head start to school, thanks to an innovative program led by Tsleil-Waututh Nation (TWN) in partnership with Table Matters, Food Lens and Harvest Project. For roughly the past decade, Tsleil-Waututh Nation has offered a breakfast program for Tsleil-Waututh Nation children and has seen first hand the benefits of providing children a healthy breakfast in a communal environment.     B.C. farmers to get tax credit for food bank donations

    B.C. farmers who donate surplus food to food banks, charities and school lunch programs are now able to claim a tax credit, Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick announced on Thursday morning. The credit is worth 25 per cent of the fair market value of the qualifying agricultural product donated to a registered charity by individuals and corporations that carry on the business of farming. The agricultural product may include meat products, eggs or dairy products, fish, seafood, fruits, vegetables, grains, pulses, herbs, honey, maple syrup, mushrooms, nuts or other produce that has been grown, raised or harvested on a farm in B.C.     B.C. agriculture and food classification laws streamlined

Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick has introduced legislation that builds on a government commitment requiring foods labelled as organic be certified by a provincial or national program by 2018. Bill 11, the Food and Agricultural Products Classification Act, replaces three older pieces of legislation. Beginning in 2018, producers, processors and handlers of organic food and beverage products, including farm gate sales, farmers markets and retail stores, will require documentation verifying their products have accredited organic certification.
