B.C. agriculture and food classification laws streamlined

B.C. Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick has introduced legislation that builds on a government commitment requiring foods labelled as organic be certified by a provincial or national program by 2018.

Bill 11, the Food and Agricultural Products Classification Act, replaces three older pieces of legislation.

Beginning in 2018, producers, processors and handlers of organic food and beverage products, including farm gate sales, farmers markets and retail stores, will require documentation verifying their products have accredited organic certification.
